CBT for Anxiety, Depression, and Other Emotional Struggles in Columbus

At Proven Pathways, our therapists are experts in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). We provide CBT adherently, which means as it was researched and found to be most effective. CBT is a goal-focused, practical form of psychotherapy that helps you better understand your emotions and to change unhelpful patterns in your thinking and behaviors that are fueling negative emotions. This present-focused therapy is based on the idea that how we think, feel, and act are all connected and can affect each other problematically or in helpful ways. For instance, if you woke up feeling depressed and tired and stayed in bed for several hours, you may end up thinking “I wasted my day” and end up feeling worse. Alternatively, if you decided to push yourself to get up and get some tasks done at a manageable pace, you may start to feel a bit better and think that you were able to make the best of a tough day.

In CBT, you will work collaboratively with your therapist to identify thought patterns and behaviors that are contributing to ongoing distress and learn healthy tools to improve and better manage your emotions. CBT is a time-limited treatment, typically 12-16 sessions, though duration of care is based on your specific needs and severity. CBT is time-limited because the goal of this treatment is to help you learn to “be your own therapist”. You learn actionable strategies to use in your daily life so that you can feel better, take meaningful steps toward what is important to you, and feel confident you can respond well to future stressful situations and tough times.
