PTSD Therapy in Columbus

At Proven Pathways, we offer multiple evidence-based psychotherapies for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD): Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE). Both treatments have shown to be effective in helping reduce your trauma-related symptoms and improve your well-being. Both are also approximately the same duration (around 12 sessions). You and your therapist can talk about what your treatment preferences would be.

Cognitive Processing Therapy

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is a treatment that focuses on identifying, evaluating, and changing negative thoughts and beliefs that developed after a traumatic experience.

In CPT, you will work with your therapist to:

  1. Understand how trauma impacts your thoughts and emotions.

  2. Challenge harmful beliefs, like "I'm unsafe" or "I'm to blame."

  3. Develop healthier ways to cope with difficult emotions.

Prolonged Exposure Therapy

Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) is a treatment that helps you gradually face and process memories, feelings, and situations related to trauma—so they no longer feel overwhelming.

In PE, you will work with your therapist to:

  1. Talk through your trauma in a safe, guided way to reduce its emotional power.

  2. Face avoided situations or places step by step, helping you regain a sense of safety and control.
