Lauren Belton, PhD

About Me:

I am a postdoctoral psychology fellow dedicated to helping individuals navigate challenges such as depression, anxiety, irritability, and the impacts of trauma. I use an integrative, evidence-based approach that draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based interventions. My therapeutic style is grounded in warmth, authenticity, and practicality. I strive to create a collaborative and affirming space where clients feel safe to explore their experiences, develop coping strategies, and move toward a life that feels meaningful and aligned with their values and identity. I work with adults from all walks of life and am especially attuned to the ways personal identity, culture, and systemic factors shape mental health.

Outside of my clinical work, I value creativity and movement as pathway to balance. I enjoy dancing, practicing yoga, and spending time with my husband and nephews. I also love exploring the vibrant arts and cultural community of Columbus.

Academic and Professional Background:

I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Howard University in 2021, following a Master’s in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida. My diverse academic training has equipped me with a comprehensive understanding of both individual psychology and the broader societal forces that impact well-being.

I have notable expertise working with BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and gender-expansive clients, and approach this work with cultural humility and care. At the same time, I have extensive experience providing care to individuals from a wide range of racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds. Most recently, I served as a postdoctoral psychology trainee within the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) at the Columbus VA, where I provided evidence-based care to Veterans navigating complex emotional and behavioral concerns. Across all settings, I emphasize cultural responsiveness, scientific rigor, and deep respect for each client’s unique story.

As a postdoctoral fellow, I currently practice under the supervision of licensed psychologist, Dr. Laren Conklin.
