Dr. Swathi Prabhu

About Me:

With a decade of experience in the mental health field, I am dedicated to helping individuals navigate anxiety, depression, OCD, and other emotional difficulties, particularly when these concerns affect adjustment, identity, relationships, body image, and other important areas of life. My therapeutic style is collaborative, compassionate, and practical. I strive to create a nonjudgmental and affirming environment where clients can better understand their experiences, develop effective skills for managing difficult emotions, and make meaningful, sustainable changes that support a life aligned with their values and goals.

My approach is grounded in evidence-based treatments, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and is tailored to each client's individual needs and goals. I am also developing specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD and incorporate principles of Relational-Cultural Therapy, which emphasizes the importance of relationships and considers how social and cultural contexts shape our experiences, beliefs, and sense of self. I am particularly attentive to the ways that personal identity and culture can impact mental health and inform the therapeutic process.

Academic and Professional Background:

I earned my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Memphis in 2026 and my master's degree in Professional School Counseling from Appalachian State University in 2017. Throughout my education and professional career, I have worked in a variety of settings, including university counseling centers, community-based settings, private practice, K–12 schools, and a VA Medical Center. These experiences have allowed me to work with individuals from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, religious and spiritual backgrounds, and sexual and gender identities, as well as across a range of ages.

My training and professional experiences have strengthened my commitment to providing care that is evidence-based, culturally responsive, and respectful of each client's unique experiences. I use a strengths-based and empowering approach that promotes client agency and helps clients develop practical skills they can apply in their everyday lives.

As a postdoctoral psychology fellow, I currently practice under the supervision of licensed psychologist Dr. Laren Conklin.
